Default Gasket tacking needed for air intake-throttle body?

I’m wondering if gasket tacking is recommended for the air intake to throttle body gasket? I want to try to avoid air being drawn in through any gasket gaps. I have a Permatex spray that I’ll use on the throttle body heater plate gasket itself - if needed, will this be OK for the other gasket mentioned?

I’m planning to replace the throttle body heater plate since it began leaking quite a bit yesterday and I think it might have been leaking gradually for some time, which could have been the source of the coolant loss in my system - I’m hoping this will resolve the coolant loss issue, otherwise, it’s likely to be something much more serious...

I used it on mine about 6 months ago, no problems so far (knock on wood!). I put it on both the throttle body heater and the throttle valve body just FYI, I think the AB video shows them using it as well, otherwise its hard to position.

Thanks! I’ll spray it on there as well. I think the AB video only showed them spraying the heater plate gasket, but maybe they sprayed the other as well off-camera.

I always use copper gasket spray on metal gaskets, just to take care of any tiny surface anomalies.

There is no path from the TBH plate to the air intake. Air can't enter the plenum through the Throttle body heater plate. Air can only enter the cooling system through that path, and likewise only coolant can exit via that path.

Thanks - I meant that I wanted to seal the throttle body gasket. I’d planned to seal the throttle body heater plate gasket as well, just wondered if people also sealed the throttle body gasket and if they used the same type of tacking spray or something else. I think I’ll try mollusc’s method of using a copper spray on this type of gasket.

Thanks everyone - wish me luck. I’m no expert and I’m stranded until I get this dealt with. When I started up after leaving a parking lot last night, she put on a real show with steam and coolant dripping, so I checking around and think this is the issue. Luckily I had almost everything since I planned to do this anyway and the parking lot I was in was the auto parts store where I was getting things to do this. Guess it’s time.

When I did my V8 top end rebuild I used Permatex 35572 aircraft gasket cement (from my old Air Force maintainer days) on all the gaskets.
It’s sticky af and it gets everywhere if you aren’t careful with it but it’s a great gasket sealant.

Good luck!

Wow that sounds like some gnarly stuff. I like the overkill approach - usually helps my mind rest easy to know something is overbuilt. I hope you had a nice Veteran’s Day.

So you used that sealant for oil, air and water gaskets?

From what I can tell from the posts here, each suggesting a different type of tacking, there are many ways to tack up a gasket that will do, especially for an air gasket like this one.

Thanks @neuropathy for the Veterans Day mention!

On the Disco, I’ve used the Permatex sealant for oil and air gaskets but it can be used on fuels and coolant gaskets also.
