Default gear oil all over rear hub

There's gear oil leaking somewhere all over the rear right hub. The wheel seems to work and drive fine it just is really grimy down there compared to the other hubs. Any suggestions on what the cause of this is and how to fix it?

I had that on my D1, the diff oil was pushed thru the wheel seal by the axle vent (in my case the banjo bolt) being clogged up, looked like rubber goo on bottom of brake pad. Spike told me the "rubber" was a mix of brake dust and diff oil. Removed vent bolt and cleaned the mud out of it, blew air thru vent tube. I know the D2 axles are a little different, not sure if vent system is similar.

Yeah vent tube is on drivers side for the D2. That was my guess if the leak is there.

Or you have a bad o-ring, either way you need to fix it before you brake pads gear oil on them and you have to replace them.

I'm convinced its either an o-ring or the hub on the rear passenger side, so i'm ordering the o-ring to replace it myself. Am I going to need to drain the differential fluid? do I need any special tools or will the hub come off the axle easy?

Comes off with regular tools, will want to drain diff. Be sure you can get fill plug off before starting...

Order two, so you can do the other side as well, it has been subject to the same issues.

Before you start the repair, read the Rave so you aren't guessing what to do, also plan on buying/up-grading to a 75W/140 gear oil for better wear protection, buy a can of brake cleaner and consider doing your other diff and t/case fluids with the same oil if you haven't done them in awhile.
If your pads are wet from the oil, you will also need to replace them cause you can't get the gear oil out of the pads.
