Good luck the center is hard enough to do with 2 hands.

Are you going with the standard gear oil in the 90W range or the HD stuff in the 75W/140 range?
Remember your truck came with and should have synthetic oil as a replacement.

thanks mike,

i never use standard oil in anything. always always synthetic in everything =)

i have to see what i have in my shop. i believe i have 5 to 7 qts of valvoline synthetic gear oil in my shop. not sure on the viscosity thought. i know its most likely a 75/90 cause i had a bunch of it from when i did the gearbox on the 308. i always buy lots when i find a good sale on oils and lubes.

i was planning on doing the T-case but i might wait till later when i can have a extra set of hands to help out.

i had 5 qts in the garage.

so i did the diffs. it was valvoline synthetic 75/90. went pretty easy. small hand pump i bought at the parts store is always a lifesaver and even more so with one arm in a sling.

sale on mobil 1 synthetics. 5 qts of any weight plus mobil filter for 29.99. heck of a deal. +1 qt at the sale price. so i got my mobil 1 10/40 high mileage and 2 gallons of peak 50/50 mix for $10. and as always a bottle of water wetter.

all went well and i even managed to not break the plastic fill plugs on the diffs.

coolant tomorrow.

next is T-case and tranny. then belt and power steering fluid and the 60k will be done.

why is the transfer case any more difficult than the diffs?

because it's tough to access the fill and drain plugs?

Yes the fill plug can be hard to get off especially if this is the 1st time it's been cracked open. It is slightly behind the E-brake drum and a wobble extension makes it easier to get to.
