gear shift removal

How do I romove the gear shifter or gear shifter head to insert a new gear selector screen on a 99 disco 1?

to remove the head you just pop the rectangular thing in the middle off and theres a nut in there. but to get to the selector diplay majiger you need to remove the center console.
