Geeze...The 3 Lights...TC, ABS, HDC&^%$
I just had new brakes installed 45 days ago. New pads, discs, all okayed by my local "rover guy." They were a bit squeeky at times, but I was told that was just one more rover thing.
He says it's probably just a matter of cleaning the wheel speed sensor. So, what say you? Is this simply a matter of replacing the pads to genuine Rover pads and cleaning the wheel speed sensors? Does that even sound like a logical proposal?
This frick'n truck is killing me!(*($^(&$#(&

What brand of pads and rotors did your mechanic use, this is important find out?
Also ask him if he used any brake sound deadening material material on the back of the pads backing plates?
Brakes are not supposed to squeak, especially on Rovers cause they will trip the trio of lights. Sounds like you mechanic missed something or used the wrong parts and should fix the problem.

Front brakes are easy to do, have you found any place to buy good quality rotors and pads? How maqny miles on your truck?

Disco Mike,
I'm a regular contributor to a cycling forum. I'm comfortable being thesageexpert there, but you are certainly the guru on Discos here, so I applaud your willingness to share your experience with this forum. Kudos. Got that out of the way.
So, my brakes have a tendency to squeel sometimes. It's weird. Sometimes I can go days with quiet brakes then all of the sudden they screach like a banchee. If that alone caused my lights to trip, is that a sign of expensive repairs or is it a matter of new pads, a bit of wheel sensor cleaning and then the lights go off? There's no dust to speak of. He assured me he used the proper pads. He seemed aware of potential problems with using pads containing too much metal which by his accounts "contaminates" the magnetic wheel speed sensor.
We'll find out. On thursday I bet he nails me for another repair bill. He seems fair enough but new pads and a cleaning seems too easy for a Rover.
Anyway, thanks Mike for all the help.

I'm no help here (I've done the same things you have), but if its any consolation to you, I've had an '03 Disco since about August and those three lights followed bythe dreaded ding-ding-dingare the bane of my existence! If/when you find the root of your problem, please post back and let me know too.
