Default Getting P0455 and P0734 Codes

I just did a scan on my 2000 disco II and got the P0455 and P0734 codes. The car has about 86k miles and i bought it when it had 73k miles. all i have done changed the oil since then. i have bought K&N air filter and i will be puttin that in tomorrow to see if the codes reappear. if the 0734(gear 4 ratio incorrect) reappears, do you think i should buy a new MAF or is there other causes for it. also something that has appeared recently is that i hear sputtering when i press teh accelerator really hard. there is no sputtering when accelerating gently but sometimes in highways when you need the start it happens. one more thing is that i have the 3 amigos coming on and off.

DO NOT USE THE K&N FILTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, do you even know what the codes are and what they mean?
The K&N filter will kill your MAF, take it back and buy a good paper filter.
Have you started working on your gross evap leak, 0455?
When was this truck last tuned, plugs, wires and decarboned?
What are you using for gas?
What have you done so far with tracking down your brake issue?

The PO734 code is most likely your MAF. Like Mike says, DO NOT USE THE K&N FILTER!

Before I start replacing the MAF, etc, if you haven't done so already, follow Mike's 60K service. Do a search for it, it's been posted a lot. It's not cheap, but in the long run it is worth it.

The sputtering will most likely be fixed with an induction cleaning and new plugs / wires.

After you do the 60k service, clear the codes and see if they come back. You might get lucky, but I would think a new MAF is in your future.

Good luck.

As mentioned, sounds like you need a good tune up. Personally, I have a PO734 code pop up every so often. My truck runs great and the mileage is normal, so I just clear the code and it stays off for a couple weeks until another glitch triggers it again. This has been going on for 3 or 4 months now but I'm notsweating it, maybe my MAF is slowly failing. I'm getting due for a new battery so I'm suspicious that having a low voltage might be effecting something too.

The 734 code is not set by a low battery voltage as some codes are.

When it comes down to it, the difference between 87 vs 93 octane is like $6 when you fill up- not that much and it may save you a lot of $ down the road.

Spend a couple of hours on this forum doing a search for theseitemson the list before you do anything(ie. sparkplugs /wires, atf flush, seafoam cleaning, front driveshaft) you'll learn a lot.

Aw man, don't use the cheap gas. Stick with 93. The difference is what, less than .20 a gallon? It might cost you another $5 when you fill up....about $20 a month the way I drive (one tank a week). The cheap gas will produce carbon buildup and clog you up. Also, the computer will change the timing to compensate for the cheap gas and your MPG will actually be worse. The 93 will pay for itself over and over again. When you do the induction cleaning and engine cleaning, stick with the 93.
