Took her for an 80 mile jaunt after installing the new TW driveshaft. Farthest I've been willing to run her til I trusted her. Temps ran mostly in the 170's, intake air in the 40's, and outside air temp was around 35. I noticed my ultragauge showed the startup screen forever until I reached over and pushed the up button, then it scanned and went to work...
No SES lights at all today. Ultragauge indicated a pending po102 several times, and I had just pulled the maf sensor earlier in the week and sprayed it with the proper cleaner. I filled it up with 93 octane. Wanted to test the cruise but I forgot. Climate control worked perfectly, as does everything else we have played with. Road manners are excellent and I must say that ACE is amazing on winding roads. You'd think a already tall SUV like this with a lift and larger tires added would really lean in the curves, but I couldn't get a lean out of it, it just corners flat.
Looking for a CDL transfer case now. No rush, just keeping my eyes open for an 04 with the linkage.
Rave manual says to remove the exhaust to remove the TC, but I was looking while I was under there greasing what I could, and it appears it will drop out behind the Y. Am I correct on that?

I bought everything but the drain **** from Jegs online. If they have a housing with 1-1/4" ends, you would be advised to go that way. Everything in the system is 1-1/4". This one is 1-1/2" and I lubed up the hoses and forced them on. They are SNUG.

water temp adapter (for drain ****) Item 312334313658 $22.50

In line housing Item 111375556706 $20.99

High flow 180 thermostat Item 401626433387 $8.54

Contrary to what some say, I drilled four 1/8" holes 90 degrees apart. I'm running no more than 185 on the warmest day so far, and on days like today where its in the 20's on the way in, I'm running in the low 170's.

My hoses are a mish-mosh of old and new. I did buy the hose everyone recommends for the lower, and then used a inline hose connector (1-1/4") to connect where the old thermostat was. In hindsight, I'd just eliminate that connection. The land rover virgin islands site has a great write-up and how to with good pics.

The drain **** I got at O'reillys and it is a mundane 1/8" NPT brass drain petcock, available at about any auto or hardware store. Be sure to use teflon tape on that connection.

The more I drive it the better she runs. Drove it to work every day and had one code, po126, that cleared quickly. Most of the way through a tank of 93 octane with a can of seafoam. It does excellent in snow and heavy enough that its good on ice too. Took the wife for her first ride since she drove it on the trailer to bring it home, and she likes it. Quiet, smooth, good tunes, heated seat, and didn't have to push it once! I think it had set for over a year before I bought it as I eluded to earlier. Exceeding 15mpg according to ultragauge.
Back to a previous question there was no response to...

Thanks for the links to the in line tstat items. Ill be doing this along with a new WP and fan clutch in a few weeks. Your thread has inspired me to get busy and make my 03 a trust worthy long haul ride.

And then it was gone.

But it will come back, I suppose. My son was home from college and has been trying to sell his truck, and Saturday, it sold. He's looking for a good mpg car; Kia Optima with a replaced engine, Hyundai Veloster, or possibly Taurus SHO. Not my kind of vehicles, but, hey, its his money. So, when he headed back today, it was in my favorite toy, my land rover. Made the trip without issue, other than the p0126 I told him to suspend on the ultragauge. He's very tech oriented, so he liked the capabilities of the ultragauge. Apparently, as my research on here indicates, the p0126 is a result of cold weather and an inline 180 thermostat mod.
He helped me install the replacement rear hatch license plate light latch cover. Thanks Leslie!
I told him to watch a suspect drippy heater hose that leaves antifreeze on the passenger side valve cover, keep an eye on the temp, check the oil, and drive it like he stole it. Oh, and wear your seat belt. He's a good kid. Second year in mechanical engineering program. He will bring it back one of these days and my journey will continue. Until then, I'll just be reading about your rovers. Its all good. Couldn't very well put him in a 79 CJ5 with a half cab or my 66 Cj6 with a soft top and questionable heat, now could I?

I have I have had a dozen Rovers I've done the thermostat mod 2, a 180 thermostat never threw the code in my experience, anything lower than that will throw a code in 03 and 04 s. As far as the drippy hose, if you've got a kid going to college in it I recommend you change all the hoses immediately and seal them to the fittings with some silicone when you do so. I had one hose just split on my two thousand, the hose on my 99 with 110000 Mi burst as I was pulling into a gas station, and on my other 2000 I had a hose that would not leak with an idling and would not leave me any evidence that she was leaking but I took it on a 3-hour drive and it was pumping the coolant out of the end of the hose due to a bad seal and in 3 hours it pumped all the coolant out against the fire wall where it never made a smell and I overheated the truck and blew the head gaskets
