Default Glowing Ground wire

Changed the oil pump gears on my 2004 DII. Everything went smooth. Put it all back together and hooked the battery up. Ground wire screw on the alternator bracket started glowing .. wires started smoking. I unhooked the battery pretty fast. Any ideas to trouble shoot?

There's a ground wire on the alt? Think you mean the charge wire unless d2 is way different then d1

Alt grounds through the brackets

Double check you did not crush any wires on reassembly

The wires to alt should be big one = battery +, small = ign +?, and a tach lead iirc

Have you checked the main engine earth/ground cable or maybe forgotten to replace it. The electricity will find the path of least resistance or an alternative path.

It also may be your regulator in the alternator has gone bust by coincidence.
