Going off-roadin' tomorrow... Advice?
Thanks toeveryone's help, I have been able to successfully free the differentialand my 98 Disco 1 now goes into 4-low. To celebrate I am taking the family into the mountiains of Arizona tomorrow. This will be my maiden voyage off-road with the Disco... Does anyone have any advice? Should I start off gentle? The course I plotted isn't rigerous, but I certainly wouldn't take my Ford Explorer either...
Regards,
Todd

Yeah, take it slow and have fun.
Keep your fingers out of the spokes on the steering wheel, if you hit a rock and the wheel whips around it can break your thumb.
Put the transfer case in the right gear before you start, if you are going to need low, put it in low before you need it.
Stay within your ability, go around not over if you can, tread lightly and have fun.
Enjoy the great outdorrs from the climate controlled comfort of your leather seats. Bring your camera, a recovery strap, I bought a foxhole shovel from a Army Surplus store, I also carry a machet'. Get a Zippo lighter and a Maglite, pack the Coleman with sandwich's and Pepsi and you, your wife and the kids will have a ball.
Bring your cell phone and car charger too.

Forget the soft drinks, take lots of water, 1 gallon per person is suggested by most clubs when on the trail.
Check all your fluid, your air pressure and take a shovel.
Most importantly, you should go with another truck in case there is a problem and especiually because you are new to wheeling.
What trail are you going to be running???

Thanks eveyone for the good advice. WOW! That thing is a TANK! I had no problems getting her to get up and go anywhere. Right now she is covered in mud and I couldn't be more proud. I scared the kids a little bit, but I guess that's part of the experience.
I took a moderate trail up to Hog's Back in the Superstition Mountains. I gotta admit... I've read plenty of posts and heard many stories but until you've gone "off-roving" yourself, you just don't get it. What put the icing on the cake was a nice, mostly dried up, field towards the bottom. We'd had some rain recently and this area still had plenty of mud. I was totally surprised how deep you can sink a Disco. I got her in to where I was concerned I wasn't going to come out with her, but again to my surprise... not even a struggle.
Thank you all for helping me remember why I bought a Land Rover to begin with.
