Default Got a '96 where do I start?

Just purhased a '96 auto with 65,000 on the odo. what are the first things i should look for as I get ready to do the regular 60k mant. I plan to do oil change, air filter, fuel filter what is best grade of oil to use for daily driving in cold weather, should I stick with OEM or go K& N filters? Anything else I should do?

The other thing I plan to rip out the stereo cause I have the stuff so it wont cost me anything. Are there any good links to DIY installs so I can get some insight into dash and wiring access?

thanks

Welcome ,

Change the trany, diffs , transfer, power steering, antifreeze,
brake fluid but only use castrol GT-LMA fluid.
Tune up only use the oem spark plugs it just runs better with them.
And put a stop leak in the antifreeze when you change it ( some will not mix with antifreeze
so find the right kind) not a whole bottle.
For the oil I like Mobil One Truck & SUV 5w40.
Not all of this needs to be done asap just get to it when you can.
If you have the records you can see what has been done.

thanks for the tips. ill stop at my dealer tomorrow to pick up some oem stuff in prep for my first road trip. how do you feel about switching to mobil 1 after 65k. dont have maintenance records and assume its been using snake oil. on my other cars some say to stay away from the switch as it may loosen up deposits that have been keeping me from buring oil.

i have always used mobil 1 in my cars(mostly turbos with 12+ psi but on a new engine

thanks

if you're reffering to your local LR dealer be wary... unless you have got bottomless pockets things from them can be VERY expensive. i got a quote for a $1500 maint. service that was basically an oil change and new wipers and plugs.

I would change to the mobil 1 just keep a eye on the oil if it gets
dirty quick just change it sooner. If its going to use oil it will burn any kind syn or not.
On oil type air filters just make sure that they are not over oiled.
Check some of the links you can find OEM stuff at a much better
price.
