Quote: The front shaft must last longer than you think. My car has 140,000 miles and these appear be the original shafts. I admit I don't know the car's history except I bought it with a blown head gasket and multiple warning lights ( repaired now )

From the comments here, I'm guessing its the front drive shaft that fails. And per a couple of comments the "updated" shaft has 3 u joints.

I'm going to start looking for an updated front shaft.

Many thanks for the helpful comments.
Yeah mine had 175,000 miles before I put in a rebuilt drive shaft. However the one thats in there now doesn't have a grease zerk for the slip joint.

You two are lucky, they fail at all different miles you just never know but at any rate its not worth the risk.

@lr2001Silver, One of Justin's drive shafts should arrive at my house today. Do you know if they have a grease-able centering ball? Looking forward to putting it in tonight.

It will come a greased up! Just pull yours and install your new! Grease every oil change to keep things lubed up.

Quote: I greased the u joint and the prop shaft zirks until grease squirted out.
Just to be clear, you want to see new grease coming from around all 4 seals on each u-joint.
Until you see that, you're not done.

a PDF file that will walk you thru it along with good part numbers
Hi Disco Mike, if it's not too much trouble, can you email me that PDF you spoke about for rebuilding the front drive shaft, complete with good u-joint P/Ns? Much appreciated in advance!

Thanks,
Disco Brent
