Great Discovery rescue story!
I attended the monthly meeting of the Houston Land Rover Club the other night and the President told a really great story. A friend asked him if he wanted to go out to the country to test a new rifle he got and he said yes and the friend volunteered to drive his Nissan Pathfinder. Not long after they got to the property the Nissan got stuck in some really soupy soil. The guy really dug it in and they tried jacking it up and using all kind of things under the tires to get unstuck to no avail. They hiked out to the road and flagged down a local guy in a Ford truck who said he would help but he would help. Hethen proceeded to get his truck stuck in the mud trying to get them out. The local guy called his wife and told her to come help with his Ford F250 truck, she did and they got that one stuck. The local guy then called his brother in law and asked him to help and he came out with yet another Ford F150 truck. Well, guess what? He got stuck too. That makes for 3 Ford pickups and a Nissan Pathfinder. So the club President called his wife back in Houston and had her drive the 100 miles out to the place they were all stuck with his 2001 Disco and he proceeds to winch the other 4 cars out of the mud. He said when it was done his friend said the next time they go anywhere he can drive his Disco!
That's hilarious. My wife wants an LR3, and when she gets it she wants a vanity plate that says JRV1. JEEP RECOVERY VEHICLE. Course she also wants the rear door spare tire mount, and I want to rebadge it as a Discovery 3 just to be different.

To confirm the Discovery versus LR3. This is an EBAY United Kingdom listing for a 2006 DISCOVERY 3 2.7 TDV SE listed in London. It is a Discovery and not an LR3. Notice the 3 designation versus III.

It would be great if we could buy these vehicles in the US with small turbocharged diesel engines that get reasonable gas mileage.

When I was in high we had a similar situation happen. One person getting stuck led to a total of 8 trucks getting stuck, all Fords. Even the supposedly unstoppable 77 Bronco got buried to the frame rails. It took 2 trucks to pull the Bronco out of its hole then the Bronco pulled everyone else out. It turned out to be a fun day. Sure beat going to school.
BTW, when I graduated high school Discoveries had just made it to the states and no one had them where I lived. In fact I don't even think there were any Range Rovers in my town.
