Default Greetings! New member with some q's on a purchase

Hi,

Recently sold my 3/4 4wd Suburban and I'm starting my search for a (a real 4wd) ....a Discovery. I've done some research and I'm trying to learn as fast as I can because I need the Discovery by June...I see there are plenty for sale with prices from $5k on up. I was thinking about a low mileage example in good clean condition with about 50k miles...But, if a one owner in good condition with lets say 125k miles and a healthy PPi is a good decent buy, I'd be happy with it. Are some years better than others? Glad I found the Forum!

Thanks!

Henry

If you can afford a 2004, start there.
If not, you can find some really quality DI's for $5,000 or less.
If you prefer the DII and cant afford the 04, i recommend the 99-00.

But before i go into much detail, what are you planning to use this truck for?

Thanks Camdisco and Jason,

I'm going to use the Discovery for fishing trips. I like to drive down to the rivers. No hard core off road. Mostly just gravel and dirt roads.

My favorite Rovers are the County LWB and the Defender. The County for the space, and the Defender is merely a Disco on roids.

If you like Disco I's, I would look at them for a fishing truck. They have center diff. lock, which you really dont need for gravel/dirt, but it could come in handy at some point.
If I had all the money in the world, I'd get a DI and mod it into a weekend fishing/camping rig.
But honestly, for gravel and dirt roads any of the Disco's I listed in my original post would be just fine!

Let me know if you have an specific questions about anything.

Well if using it just for easy dirt roads any year besides the bad 03 vin range would be suitable. But the reason we recommend the 04 is it has the Center differential lock, making it true 4WD. The early models ( up to 02 ) can do this but not from the cabin.
