half light?

On my truck, when I have the light switch one position up (park lights), both of my headlights come on at half power. Maybe one of your bulbs isn't working correctly?
Also, I know that some cars have a quirk where you can just the turn signal stalk (when the car is off) and it will keep one side of the lights on a low power (I saw this on a few cars when working at the dealership). I never knew what it was, someone said that if you park on the street you can turn it on toward the street side so people see the edge of your car. Doesn't make sense to me as it seems it would drain your battery. Is your stalk not in neutral?

Nope its just that, a smaller light in your headlight.
Look in the back of the headlight you will see two wire sets. The low lit light is under the regular light.
And your left one is out...
On a side note, I really wanted my blinkers to be on as running lights, I switched the wires from the dim light to the blinker..
And it worked.. Just when I thought I was a genious, I realized my head light was now a blinker, and it BLUNK fast...

NiteTrain - Those are your 'city lights'. As I understand it, folks on the other side of the pond aren't allowed to run their headlights at full power at night in the cities. Something to do with the houses being right at the street and it being annoying to have your bedroom lit up like daylight.

Each head light assembly has 2 lights, your parking lights and your head light. If only one parking like comes on then one is burned out. To replace ir you need to pull the headlight assembly out thru the front of the grille, being careful not to break one of the 3 clips, then remove the small plug at the bottom of the light assembly and install another new amber bulb.

Was your drivers side tail light dimmer than what would be considered normal?
On the early model year DII's the drivers side tail light leaks and water gets in and corrodes the wire harness and this will cause the drivers side to be dim and the passenger side to be bright, eventually the passenger side wont work at all because it pigtails off of the drivers side.
So remove the drivers side taillight and look for corrosion.
