Default Discovery 1 Lower Radiator Hose

Hello,

I am currently replacing the lower radiator hose on my Discovery 1 '96. When I pulled the hose off the water pump, there was a small plastic flange wedged up inside the water pump inlet. This thing does not look like it is supposed to be part of the system. Pic attached.

Does it belong there? If not, any ideas on where it came from?

Thanks for help on a newbie question.

Ummmm, throw it away, no idea where it came from.

On second thought, put it in your tool box and see if you need it but I dont think you will.

Default Thanks!

In the tool box it goes. I think the lower hose is original. That means its been in the system for 14 years. That's hard to believe. Anyone else know what the part is?

My hoses were original also when I replaced them 3 years ago.
I did not have that part though.

Just a guess on my part, but appears like might have been a plug inserted by the radiator supplier into the radiator outlet (bottom opening) to keep debris out during shipping that an installer forgot to remove. OR, maybe just put there by a disgruntled, overpaid worker (wait, those were the GM guys before bankrupsy).....

Default Radiator Piece

It doesn't look like a cap/protector for the radiator. Its hollow and ******. It looks like you would put a ring around it (similar to the lid of a mason jar) to add a ****** hose fitting to a threaded connection.

It is not a very "tough" part. I'm surprised it survived in the coolant.

I am also surprised it didn't cause overheating.

I did have the water pump replaced about a year ago. It was wedged right up in the inlet to the water pump. Still, it seems odd to find it there.

It resembles rubber plugs that come in the end of pipes to avoid contamination.
Pull out b/4 using.

Depending on size, I agree it could have been in lower rad outlet.

Because this is a family friendly site and we have filters that block out unwanted words, and the filters are not perfect.
