Default Hand Brake not catching after cosole removal

I removed my center console today to replace my heater core, now the hand brake does not catch, its like the little mechanism is not working I can't find a spring or anything, but when I press the release button in it just stays in. Any help is appreciated.

I had the same prob. .................there is a spring in there. but upon removal I hyper extended my lever and it never worked again. for a couple of months, I could bump it with a heavy object, and it would , eventually, pop out. I had to replace it, to get it back to normal.

The Aussies helped me out over on LandyForums. When the claw hipper extends and flips the wrong way and then you flip it back, the rod between the button and the claw gets a slight bend in it causing the button to not line up and drag.

I studied the button very close to see if I could tell if it was tweaked one way and then went in from the bottom with a flat blade screw tweaked the rod back straight. Works like a champ now.

There's two problems that can happen. First is the little toggle lever can get flipped the wrong way. That's easy to fix if you just pull the vinyl boot, pull the clevis pin, flip it right way and put everything back.

The other thing that can go wrong is the metal handle can get deformed and then the button gets jammed. This problem drove me crazy because I couldn't figure out why it was sticking. I put a broad sharp chisel in the seam if the metal handle and pried it open, maybe just half a millimeter or so, and immediately the brake lever worked perfectly again.
