Default Hard Brake Pedal After Sitting

Hi all,

After sitting, even only for a few hours, the brake pedal on my 01 D2 is always hard - I don't force it, but when putting my foot on the brake to start the truck, it will barely move. Obviously as soon as the engine is started, it resumes working normally. Brakes seem fine otherwise.

Is this typical behavior or should I be looking for vacuum leaks and such?

Thanks!

That doesn't sound terribly unusual. I really have to put my foot in it to get good brake pressure when the booster is engaged. You have to remember, there's no vacuum with the engine off, so you're actuating the brakes by yourself.

Your boosters vacuum check valve should hold residual pressure after the car is turned off for some time.

If it bugs you, you can check that check valve, and if that checks OK, you may have leak in the booster itself

This doesn’t bug me at all... unless it’s a mechanical issue that I should address. Is this a sign of brake problems or is it an innocuous behavior that doesn’t influence the truck’s performance? It’s less than an hour between startups when it won’t hold the brake pressure.
