wow cheapest i could find was 3300 with 90k.. has anybody had luck replacing sleeves? are these the kind of sleeves that have a seal at the bottom. Ive got a good machine shop locally that thinks they can do it, just wouldn know til they saw it. somebody has had to at least tried to attempt it.

scan it has a cyl 6 misfire code. I might try and get a leak down tester on it.. if the sleeve is cracked lower would it leak if the piston was at TDC?

Here's some information on slipped liners
JE Robison Service — the blog: The last word on Land Rover liner failures - I hope!

Seems a lot more common on the DII's than on D1's.
People have reported seeing liners slipped down as much as 1/4", others thinking slipped liners actually found cracked liners.

The liners don't slip in these blocks (visibly and with any real effect). Antichrist posted a really good article on that.

You block is toast. It happens because it happens, or because someone with gorilla hands improperly torqued your head bolts when doing a head gasket. I have the same problem on an '02 non SAI which I'm in the process of swapping.

I'm sure the 4.6 with SAI is going to be somewhat more expensive, but I got a 38k mile 4.0 non SAI out of a roll-over for $1800 delivered. I expect that to fail at some point in the future as well, so I'm considering buying a reman block with top hat liners and rebuilding my old parts onto that to put on the shelf for when my junk motor goes.

Default hope this helps

LA Sleeve charge $1600 to sleeve all 8 cylinders.

L.A.SLEEVE CO.- Producer Of Quality Cast Iron Cylinder Sleeves & Liners Since 1945

Your other option is turner in england for one already done. I think i was quoted about $3,600.00 shipped to my door ...

4.6V8 range rover engine parts from Turner Engineering, flanged linered block castings etc

Good luck...chris

Thanks, block is out and torn down and at my machine shop. I was gonna ask where i can source those top hat sleeves, like in the article posted above. Ill report back on if I end up fixing or dropping in a junkyard motor.

Ps the top bell housing bolts are a B!@$# to get out

Supposedly the top hat ones will work even if the block ends up getting cracked where it usually does near the head bolts. Which makes sense. So the block might be salvageable if they top hat the whole thing.

You need to pull the motor mounts and drop the motor down as low as it goes. Then you can get them with a 13mm gear wrench with no problem at all. As well as the two on either side further down, which are a bitch from below.
