Head gasket job: coolant elbow into lower intake manifold?
I'm cleaning up my lower intake manifold and where the coolant elbow enters it looks like there is gasket residue under where the flange sits but I don't think there's supposed to be a gasket there? Am I wrong?

I am 99% sure there is only an o-ring and nothing else. The mating surface does get all dirty and corroded with the two dissimilar metals touching. Perhaps that is why you though there was a gasket?
