Strange to see such a noticeable gap between the block and flanged sleeve. Here's mine

Tough call. These old motors have a lot of tolerance, but it just takes one path for oil or coolant to make all of your efforts wasted.

I am way out of warranty, and I am sure it is within their tolerances. So I am going to have to roll with it.

It’s odd though.

Just sent the pic over, and will see what they have to say.

I think I am ready for head gaskets, but rain in the forecast. I will busy myself getting the injectors and rail on the lower intake, attach the throttle body to the plenum, and anything else I can transfer inside.

I made a thread chaser for the head bolts. They have all been blasted with brake clean, brushed and dried with a tips. There is a little remnants of oil in a few, but not sure that will come off.

A little nervous. I may go over with a fine scotch Brite one more time.

Anybody resurface their block with fine grit sandpaper?

Scotchbrite pads only. Will clean / scuff without removing metal

Then I should be good to go. Is it ok to still see sort of an impression of the old gasket? There is no material there. At least there does not feel like it.

Turner says it looks ok, so that is that.
