Default Head Gasket Kit Quality

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of replacing the head gaskets on my truck, and had a question regarding the various head gasket kits available. Atlantic British told me that their V8 Bosch kit is already good, and they pull the head gaskets and replace them with "better" gaskets before they even sell the kits. After talking with some of the other rover parts sites recommended from users on Dweb, I was told that they all get the kits from the same supplier as AB, and are able to offer them with bolts for significantly less. ($150-$160 vs. AB's $160+$80 for bolts)

Does it really matter, or is a head gasket pretty much a head gasket?

I just did my hg and I went with D.A.P. (www.dap-inc.com) If I remember right my kit was $175 with the new head bolts. It was the best price around and there very knowledgable. You may want to check them out.

All the kits use the same composite head gaskets. I use AB when I need parts quickly. If I call before noon I get my parts next day via ground though I have to pay sales tax. If I can wait I call around to will tillery and the other regular cheap guys. DAP list their kits for $200. I know AB throws in the throttle body heater plate kits too and some other o'rings and seals not sure exactly what the other guys kits contain, probably similar.

Dap doesnt include the throttle body heater gasket kit.I know because I just replaced mine Tue nite.Go figure. But I got that from the stealership for $25 bucks so I cant complain.I would advise replacing it when you do the hg.Also depending on the milage you may want to do the water pump while your there. Its just easier to get to while youve got everything apart.

One reason for the difference in prices can be cause all kits are not the same when it comes to the cylinder head gaskets for head rebuilding.
Make sure you get good quality head bolts cause there are a lot of cheap ones on the market that do not stretch properly.
