Default Head gasket leak

Just found out i have a leaker. I was in Rover denial for awhile, was losing water but couldn't find the leak. Engine still seems to run good. Has noise mostly at startup, but i think its all in the heads. So just rebuilding the heads seems like an option.

It is a daily driver for the kids, and I'm not in the position right now to just buy another car.

I bought some Blue Devil today. It was 70 bucks, but it is supposed to work and be safe. I know you aren't supposed to use repair sealant but i don't really have a choice, I need to buy myself some time.

I live in WA state. I am wondering if any one out here works on rovers heads, or does entire overhauls? Or maybe someone has a decent engine for sale?

I'm guessing a regular shops price would be so high that it would cost more than the car is worth even if i could afford it. So I am just searching for ideas.

If it makes a difference the leak is on the outside of the head, so oil in block is okay.

Thanks All

Never used blue devil, but I have had good results with Irontite. I know everyone will probably flip their lids, but I (like you) am not in the position to repair a head gasket or fractured block at the moment. Good luck...

Blue Devil is the worst product on the market, if you have installed it start a long and painful process of flushing it out cause it will plug up your radiator, heater core and anything else it sticks to., then replace your head gaskets before you toast your engine. Plan on also replacing your radiator that will never clean out along with a new 180 degree soft spring t/stat and coolant pressure cap or you will be plagued with over heat issues.

The Devil uses large quantity. The leak is tiny. So when the sealant works, the rest of it cirulates in the cooling system, finding every rough surface to work on. Heater cores and radiators are prime targets. You don't leak, but you have half a radiator. The rediculous Rover temp gauge (who ever thought normal was 130-240F) makes you think everything is OK, but you are stressing the system more and more. In the end, you may delay the HG repairs ($300 parts, 2 weekends, $200 machine shop inbetween, car rental) but add radiator, warped block, slipped sleeve, and the always exciting front dash - heater core dance.

IMHO the "success" of these products is partly because owners have temp gauges similar to the Rover (CPU driven, slow responding, etc.) and don't have a real scanner attached. The product keeps vehicle running long enough to be traded, or blow up from something else. But the real temps would not return to best values.
