Default This is a valley pan gasket leak, correct?

Oil constantly leaks from the back beneath the heads here… there aren’t oil passages running through the head gasket, right? So not that… valve cover gaskets are good and PCV mod done.

If it’s just motor oil then it’s your valve cover gaskets. Only antifreeze would leak out the rear and it would be lower down on the back of the block.

Based on where you are shining the light, it is probably coming from the valve cover. How do you know your valve cover gaskets are good? Have you changed them? How many miles on your engine? What is your oil burn rate? How many miles does it take before you are down a quart? If you have a high burn rate, say 1 quart per 500 miles, you probably have other issues. "Winston" has 188k on his clock. The head gasket went at 176k so I did the head gaskets, valve cover, valley gaskets. Winston has a high burn rate still (1qt. per 500 miles) so I know that I probably have other issues like oil pump seal etc.

I've changed them and check the torque on them every oil change. I don't lose enough to even top up between 5K oil changes, so it's a slow weep, but enough to make the driveway a mess. Mileage is currently 189K, and head gaskets are on the menu for the next couple weeks. I guess I'll find out where this is coming from soon enough.

Based on your response I'll stick with valve cover gaskets as my final answer.

There actually are oil passages running through the head, they feed the rocker towers and rocker arms. The oil flows up through the feed hole, down through the shafts, and out through the lube holes in the shaft. The tower at the back of the engine dead ends in to the block through the HG. Could be from that.

Ahhh... OK... I assumed there weren't any at the back since the block didn't have a casting for it, but didn't realize it terminates at the block. This has to be it then.

Unless you have other reasons to, I don’t think you need to tear into a HG job for what doesn’t seem to be a serious oil leak.

It's also leaking coolant from the same area.
