Lightbulb Head gasket question

Hello,

My discovery has 210,000 on the odometer I am currently tearing it down due to a intake gasket failure my question is because I am this far into it should I replace the head gaskets I have had this Disco since 105,000 and have never had any problems with overheating or coolant lose other than a throttle body heater gasket.

As of now I am planning on changing the timing set all pulleys possibly oil pump gears I believe I can easily get another 100,000 plus out of this truck as it is a sound running engine no cold start knocking and uses about one quart every 7,500 miles

on a side note I have heard Complaints on this forum about these engines sludging up I have been using redline oil since I bought it @ 7,500 intervals and the inside of my engine looks amazing.

Might as well... Other items such as plugs, wires, water pump, even a new hose kit considering the mileage you're at. The heads will need machining and I replaced the valve guide seals too as mine were shot at 75k. It's a lot more work than just replacing the head gaskets. I too run synthetic oil (Shell Rotella T6 Syn at 5k intervals) and everything was really clean. The sludge issues more or less has to do with poor maintenance and low quality dino oils.

Yea I would say go ahead and do it. Is this your daily driver? If you think you can shelve the truck for a while to overhaul, have you thought about the rear main seal as well? I'm not sure how well those hold up on our trucks. But I would guess at 200,000 miles yours has been replaced or your doing pretty well.

And while you are at it do the front crankshaft oil seal, based on miles.
