Default Head Gasket Recommendations

Sure this will generate some responses, but I'll ask anyway. I'm probably going to be doing the head gaskets on my truck and I'm not sure which brands are my best bet. I know what OEM gets me so I'm going with aftermarket but there seem to be many options. I've found full sets with AllMakes tty bolts for $125, and then there are Victor Reinz gasket sets for $110 without bolts. Are the Victor Reinz a good choice? Are the AllMakes bolts any good? Just want to make sure I do it once.

Elring is the mfg of the OEM gaskets. I installed AllMakes gasket kit when I did my heads. No issues yet. Its only been about a month. I installed APR studs instead of the TTY bolts.

I bought my kit from AB. The kit had injector o-rings, valve seals, new throttle body heater, and every other little gasket, o-ring, and seal you will need to completely replace all the old stuff. You will have to buy the bolts separate and I went with regular stretch bolts to go back in.

Land Rover Head Gasket Kit | RoverParts.com- $160

Land Rover Head Bolt Kit (Same fit as Part # ERR2943) Fits Discovery, Range Rover & Defender Vehicles- $80

I replaced my gaskets 67K miles ago with no problems. (knock on Wood)

Also, I've heard recently that AB may no longer include the injector o-rings so I would call or use there "chat now" window and ask to make sure it still includes everything.

Which ever kit you get make sure it comes with the valve seals to take to your machine shop. They will need those to do a valve job for you after they clean, and deck the heads. The machine shop should run you around $200, I paid $170. With all the parts and machine shop cost the total job should run you around $440.

Thanks for the replies. I found Victor Reinz with injector seals for $130 and Allmakes bolts for $30. I think that should do it. I'm also going to do the oil pump (120k), timing set (even though it only has about 50k on it), water pump with bronze impeller, cruciform seals (because the pan will be off) and the wires and plugs which is where I planned to start in the first place.

I called a machine shop about the heads today and was quoted $216 for a tank and plane or up to $460 for a valve job. I think I need to call another shop.

Just ordered everything to get this fixed. Water pump with bronze impeller, Victor Reinz head gasket set, head bolts, timing chain kit with gaskets, oil pump gear kit, cruciform seals and Dowty washers for $518 delivered. Had to use 3 sources but I think I got pretty good prices. Now for the easy part. I plan to start tearing it apart either Friday night or Saturday morning. Hope the SAI comes apart OK.
