Default Head gasket: repair or junk?

Good Morning fellow Disco Drivers,
My 2004 D2 has 175,000 the valve tick and P1171/1174 codes. Yesterday I noticed a coolant smell while driving. The P0307 code popped up. When I got home about 10 minutes later, I saw coolant running down the block where #7 cylinder is. By the time it stopped, I probably lost about a quart of coolant. I'm going to pull the plug and check to see if there is coolant in the cylinder and oil.
So if it is the head gasket ( never replaced) and I think it is, can someone ballpark me on what the repair costs/time to repair should be? I live in Fairfield County, CT so labor will probably be around $120 per hour. I love my Rover but I think I am at the point where it may not make sense to repair. I've done a fair amount of work on "Winston" but could it be time to part ways with my D2?

I'd say it's worth fixing. I will say that I would recommend a new cam and lifters based on the mileage. Will gain a little more power and motor will smooth out significantly. I did my own hg and cam job so I can't speak to labor costs/time.

The HG repair is part of owning one of these, you have done very well getting to 175k without ever having to do it so I would say you are way into bonus territory and far ahead of the game. It is totally worth doing if you love your truck and don't have a rusty frame.

Cost wise at an LR specific indy shop you will be in 2 - 2.5k dollars which as mentioned above should include a cam and lifters, possibly even new timing chain/gear which should get you another at least 100k miles. Far cheaper than a new vehicle of equal quality.

I would get three to four estimates, all from indy LR specialists, NOT general foreign car shops, NOT dealers.

If you have tools and skills you can do the job yourself for around $500 in parts.

If you don't choose to go that route you can expect to sell it for around $1000 maybe less with the leaking HG.

Absolutely new timing chain. I reused the stock gears as they were of better quality than the all-makes garbage that came in the kit I bought. I had to file them down to even get them to mount and then decided to go back to the originals before finishing the front cover up.

if it's the head gasket, fix it.....#7 more concerning: if it's the block or liner....that will be more expensive....
