Head gasket replacement
I bled the cooling system and changed the oil. I also had to replace power steering fluid from removing the pump. But no, it didn't take me a day. It took three days in total. At least, it was three days from the time I parked the Rover in the garage and pulled it out again. And I had help about half of the time. Also, I did it over the weekend plus half Friday and half Monday. I did waste some time dealing with boogered exhaust flange studs, trying to figure out why I didn't have enough head bolts, and just in awe of seeing the inside of my engine. Also, I was slow by monsoon rains that partially flooded my garage Saturday night and Sunday. But I don't think I could have done the actual work a lot faster.

If I did it again I am sure it would be faster... Maybe 30 percent. But I do not believe some of the comments I have read elsewhere claiming that the HG replacement was done in six hours or even a day. Of course, I am not a mechanic, but I did have a workspace and my tools and parts all laid out. I have air tools but I don't use them much and didn't on this project. I don't see how one person could do it in six hours, even nonstop.

I've never used a pressure tester. Is that all there is to it? You are talking about the relief tank for the radiator? I don't really understand how that works... But doesn't it have a tube that pours out (is open)?
by using the correct adapter you will block off the return line in the top of the recovery tank. then by building pressure up behind the coolant you will force it out anything that is leaking or lose. I'm sure u tube must have a video that someone has already made.
I need a little more advice...
I did change the gasket and swapped the rocker assembly for a clean one. Of course I cleaned everything during the gasket change. I am getting a misfire on 4,6,and 8 under heavy acceleration only. I don't think it is the gasket because I am not losing coolant and though I let it sit for two days it started right up.
So my thinking is to work my way back from the cylinder. I put new bosch platinum +4s in. Now maybe swap the plug wires from one side to the other. If no joy, then swap the coils (I have an extra set for my spare engine. If that doesn't fix, then fiddle with the injectors.
Is this the right track?

Okay I don't think it is the head gasket and am totally mystified. I switched the wires for 7 and 8 and drove like a maniac on the highway and could not replicate the problem. The stuttering was extremely dependable and easy to force, and it is gone. Drove 20 miles. I have no idea. But when I returned I carefully opened the overflow tank and could not smell any exhaust in the fluid. Stumped. Fixed apparently by swapping one wire.
Anyway, if it is not the head gasket this thread is done. Once again, thanks for all of the advice and help.
