Between these...

Teardown
Engine Refresh (top end) « PaulP38A.com

Reassembly
Engine Refresh (Part 3) « PaulP38A.com

And the Rave (just do a find for "cylinder head" till get to the gasket section) for the reassembly torque values.

...you dont really need a video

Pinky That is great especially the part about understanding wife. The lovely Mrs. Slabrat will probably leave home while this is going on . I was planning on taking the fan off and totally removing the hood just to get things out of the way.

It would still be nice to see the video but I am starting tonight to take it apart so It may not be much help but it would still be nice.

Next order of business : to find a good machine shop near here

Thanks for the links

No problem.

There are a few small differences (sai, no need to remove things like exhaust, steering, knock sensor, etc) but it is a good visual.

Sync with the rave procedure so you don't do unnecessary disassembling.

And yeah, take the fan off

You don't really need a video.
Well, maybe for taking off the intake.

This is almost as good as a video

This head gasket job is dragging on . Guess I really slow. Been 3 days off and on and I'm down to the rockers and exhaust manifold then I can lift the heads out. What a job!

Took me two weeks.
And 1/2 of it in the dark with a trouble light in a parking lot.
Just enjoy the ride.
Haste makes waste.

Be proud of your efforts.
Do it slow and correctly.

Only if you have done it many times do you earn the right to "do it fast".

Thanks I need the encouragement. Coil packs were hard to remove, Had to unplug then to get it past the manifold and firewall. Made a good print and hooked the wires back up. THe Magna cores are a bit thicker than the old ones. I replaced these last year so they still look new. I bent one of the heater core pipe ( smashed it more like) I don't know if it will leak or not.
Onward and upward. Should have some good pics in a week or 2

should have just let the coil hang back there until you got the intake manifold off. Then remember to place the coil back there with the wires attatched before you reinstall the intake on reassembly.

I know your pain, my friend. I'm entering week three. It would have been a simple HG job, but I had other leaks and things I wanted to be sure of. So, it went from "hey, I should replace my head gaskets" to "hey, let's rebuild the top end."

Waiting on the last of the parts now.

At least I'll have confidence in it when it's done!
