Head Gaskets Leaking

RE: Head Gaskets Leaking
Replace both head gaskets at the same time. If the other ons isn't bad now it will be shortly. Save yourself the time and money and fix both at once. If you take it to a mechanic, a good mechanic will not only replace one. I have to have the head gaskets on my D1 replaced and my mechanic quoted me $1500 for parts and labor.

I think not only would I go to another shop but I would probably be tempted to beat the crap out of a mechanic that would only replace one head gasket, especially at that price. As I said earlier, my mechanic quoted me $1500 and I know that is for both head gaskets.
I will say that I could be wrong and replacing one head gasket may be an acceptable practice but I have never heard of it.

are you 100 % sure its the headgaskets leaking and not the valley pan gasket. When you say left side, do you mean as your sitting in the truck, or looking at the engine ?
If its when your looking at the engine, I would bet its the valley pan gasket, it leaks at the back left corner and drips down onto the bell housing.

Is it common for these coolant leaks to pop up at the beginning of winter like this. Seems like a whole mess of posts dealing with coolant leaks have popped up on here in the last week or so. Maybe it's because my Rover is sitting at home waiting for a new water pump and head gaskets that I've just noticing them more.
Ne1949 - Have you had a pressure test performed on the cooling system to verify exactly where the leak is? UP could be right (it has happened) and it could be the valley gasket and not a head gasket.

Considering your 03 has secondary air, $1600 is a fair price to replace both head gaskets. There may be some additional cost if the engine was overheated and warped the heads, apx $200 more.
Make sure they only use Rover gasket kits and new head bolts, apx $210 in total.
