Default Header tank level

I’ve been blessed or cursed, the last car was an old gti golf and various petrol diesel 4x4 before that, this is the first time I’ve run a v8, I’ve rarely had to top up the header tank in other cars, but now every week or two I’m topping the tank up, I’ve looked at threads and I see the problems others have with over heating etc, but what is normal water use if I’m running 500k a week

cheers

None.

The cooling system is a sealed system; if your truck is losing coolant you have a leak somewhere.

That said, a lot of people don't bother chasing leaks if they're minimal; just keep an eye on the level and keep it topped up.

How much coolant are you losing? If you're driving 500 km per week I wouldn't be too alarmed if the coolant level is down a cm or two.

I found that I needed to top up the header tank when the filler cap wasn't functioning properly. Replacing it fixed the problem.

I think it's a legacy term -- probably British in origin. I believe it used to refer to an auxiliary tank on non-pressurised cooling systems when the solution to not boiling the coolant was just to have a LOT of coolant. The logical carryover is to the expansion tank.

amazing how 80 % of Rover problems don’t exist in Japanese or German cars.
I have a old Subaru and it’s a saint compared to the attitude of the rover

Another common place for leaks is the throttle body heater. Replacing the gasket is a fairly easy and it’s probably a good idea to replace the plastic hose leading up to it anyway.

The D2 cooling system was designed by BMW, so as German as a Golf.
