Headlights are barely lit and they wont switch from high beam to low and the high beam light is lit on the dash.I just got a brand new battery and the alternator tested good.Any thoughts?

 

Probably your high beam low beam switch inside the turn signal stalk has failed or is shorted.

 

CAn I take that out without removing the steering wheel?

 

I replaced the switch and I am still having the same problem.Any thoughts?

 

Any fuses blown at all? Check both under the dash AND under the hood at all of them. There are separate ones for right and left beams as well under there. Maybe pull the one under the hood for the high beams one at a time and go from there.

 

All the fuses are good,I pulled every fuse out and they are all good.

 

Since the lights are are "working" are dim, I'd check for a bad ground. Look in the electrical circuit diagrams in RAVE for the exact locations.

 

does sound like a bad ground, pull the wire looms at the head lite, use electric spray to clean them, make sure no wires are broke. if this dosnt work cheak the relay, take it out and use another one thats in your truck, just make sure its the same, if that dost work it could be your switch.You could say screw it and bypass the O.E.M relays and get a heavy duty relay kit and wire them up right up to your batt. the kit is around $50.00, may be cheaper.

 

You replaced the turn-signal/headlamp switch on the steering column? Can you verify the quality of the new switch? Is it a new or used switched?

If it's new and your still experiencing the same issues I would check for a sticky/faulty relay.

The lights worked fine before the battery change? Check to make sure the negative/positive battery terminal cables are securely fastened to the battery post.

 

More interested in seeing what happens with the high fuses out. Would the lows be regular and the light off the dash.
