I am using my fog lights or high beams until I figure it out.

Same thing happened to me but mine were on and both went out. Fog lights got me home. Next day checked fuses all good. I had a extra set of Silverstars so I changed them and all was working. Apparently they both blew at the same time, I figured it must have been a low power surge. Has been fine for over a year now.

In an effort to avoid having to chase down a short, I am going to buy a new set of bulbs. If that doesn't work, then I at least have a spare set. I will update when I know.
Any recommendations on the best bulbs?

Compare the lumen output on the boxes.
Headlamps are like buying a mattress. You gotta have them or it.
And, always overpriced.
