Redoing the headliner in fabric isnt much more expensive than painting it. It helps to have an extra pair of hands when laying the fabric down just remember to use the right glue. The fabric serves as an extra layer of insulation from noise and heat. 2 cents.

That was one of the main reasons why I decided to insulate the roof. I didn't want it to echo even more because of not having the fabric their to tone the noise down.

I'm going to upholster mine. I like the look of the black fabric. I have a grey truck with black carpet, dark seats and the grey pillar trim and handles so it should look pretty nice. Should hide any grime the kids manage to smear on it too. I'll put extra effort into making sure that the leakage through the sunroofs is minimized and that it all gets into the drains so that should make it last a while.

to play devils advocate the original foam between the material and the actual fiberglass headliner is only one eighth of an inch thick which is why it fails In the first place. so I don't think adhering a piece of suede directly to the headliner would prevent anything. If you want your truck be cooler paint the roof white like a series truck. if you wanted to be quieter then use Dynamat above the headliner

I did mine in a charcoal grey ultra suede. Buddy works for a custom shop and ordered me the proper material with the foam backing. it was exactly wide enough to fit our huge headliners width wise. He brought his glue spray gun and made it look easy.

I love the way it looks.........and feels.

That's sounds sweet, can you post some pics of your liner? If I re do mine again I'm thinking about going back to a fabric and a leather type material would be nice.

one thing to remember it is the foam that gives out not the headliner, so if you redo it using a foam back material it will happen again.

i will worry about that again in 13 years, the first one made it that long. no way I would rock a painted one because I was worried the foam was going to give.

+1 Agreed! If I get 13 more years (in my case 10) out of any of my repairs, I consider myself lucky.
