had the headliner re-glued last weekend. it looks great and was cheap (will's auto trim in hempstead, long island) there is now no power to the stereo (it wont turn on) and the dash clock is illuminated but not showing a time. the headliner guys said they didnt go near the dash but did say the wiring up in the roof was bad, rotten, etc.

does anyone have experience or with this? or have an idea of what i should look at besides the fuses in the passenger cabin fuse box?

 

Did the same thing when I replaced mine, usually one the the dome lights will short out if you're not careful with the reinstall.

I believe you blew fuse #20, its a 15A fuse in the driver side fuse box. It will be marked in the legend with an "!".

 

Dome lights would be my guess too.

headliner is on my bucket list to do, but I still have not worked out how I plan to deal with my leaking sun roofs. They don't leak all the time. I still haven't determined if it was leaves or broken connections at the drain tubes. What did ya'll do to be sure there were no leaks before replacing the liner?

Looking at the D2 electrical library, it depends a bit on which ICE system you have fitted. For the Base and Mid-Line entertainment systems, the interior lamps and the radio share engine compartment fusible links 3 and 8 and passenger compartment fuse 20.

Things get more complicated if you have the High-Line ICE.


It might seem odd at first, until you realise that there are a lot of odd things about Rover electrics.

 

mollusc might be right. From my user manual ('03+) Fuse #20 controls the attached, but on a '99 it might not be the same.

While the headliner is off is a very good time to make sure all of the radio antenna connections and parts are in good working order.

You'll want to check with the radio on a fairly weak AM station. While the radio is playing listen for any changes in the signal strength of that station as you check each connection, including the button ones on the windows.

I found that button connection was corroded which led to weak reception. Removal and cleaning with a contact cleaner fixed the problem.

Base models will only have a button wire on one side. higher model sound systems will have an antenna connected to the button on both rear side windows with RF amplifiers underneath the headlining.
