I have noticed that many replace their head gaskets.

How many have the heads touched up via a machine shop, replace the lifters, rod bearings and rings at the same time?

I would think you would have a strong engine after that.

94K miles, hunting / farm truck not a daily driver...

does have a tick noise after warming up.....

All heads should go to the machine for pressure testing and resurfacing, any additional work will depend on the mile of the engine and how well it has been taking care of.

 

Yes, when do head gasket you should have the heads planned for trueness. also some people have probably gone into the lowerend but why there is no need to go near the lowerend for head gaskets

 

Some that have elected to skip the machine shop have regretted it later, the spec for flatness is .002 inch, or about 1/2 the thickness of your printer paper. However, if the tick is caused by slipping sleeve, HG alone may not fix it. We have threads about pinning the liners.
