Default Heat & A/C Fan Unit Noise?

I having a problem with my 2001 Land Rover Discovery II (USA), in which the fan unit used for both heating and cooling the internal cabin is making significant noise/rattling upon turning the unit on. The A/C and heat still seem to work, but the noise is unbearable. The source of the noise appears to be coming from the passenger side, under the dash. Is this where the fan unit is located? I know this isn't much to go on, but thoughts anyone

Regards

I have 2000 and it did the same thing and just when I was about to take it in - it stopped. I would also be curious to know what anyone else thought.

Normally when that noise starts it is either because the fan motor is failing or when you suck leaves into the blower area, most times it's leaves.

Ahhh...That makes sense - mine must have been leaves because mine hasn't come back.

Where is the air intake located for the "blower area" that you mention? I would imagine there is some sort of screen or filter to prevent leaves from getting sucked into the fan unit correct? I have to admit, when I turn the heat or a/c on it makes a noise that sounds just as if leaves or plastic are being agitated inside the unit.

Thanks

Inside the engine compartment along the firewall under the windshield. Yes there is a little foam, but you would be surprised what gets past it.

I am having this same problem with a 2000 disco. Before I was able to take a can of compressed air and spray it into the vent and it fixed the problem for about 3 months. Now that fall is here and we have a large amount of trees the problem is back. I have tried the compressed air can as well as an air compressor, but not luck.

Anyone know how to clean it out yourself without taking it into the shop. Everything works fine but the noise drives me crazy!

Thanks for the help!
