Default Heat Shield for Catalytic Converters

I noticed I don't have heat shields to protect the passenger side cat from the frame. After finding some frame rot (adjacent to the passenger cat) I'm not sure if the truck ever had one. Anyone else have a rot issue

I don't have the rot issue, but my passenger heat shield was rattling. I pulled it off this weekend. Are they so necessary that I need to run by and have it tack-welded back on, or am I safe just to run without?

I'd recommend keeping all of the heat shields and wraps in place on these trucks. They make lots of heat.

I had a loose shield on the driver's side cat on mine. I riveted a short tab on the broken end of the shield and clamped to the exhaust with a hose clamp. If you have a welder, that's even better but make sure you rebuild the rotten parts first.

For all of the above reasons, don't remove it, if missing, I would replace it.

Does anyone have a picture of what the heat shield looks like? I searched all my know part suppliers and cannot locate one.
