Default Is a heat shield missing here?

Just noticed - my 2004 has a heat shield along the transmission tunnel. My 2002 doesn't. Is this something they added in later models or did the 2002 just lose it somewhere in its life?

The top photo is the 2004 and the bottom one is the 2002. There isn’t a heat shield on the 2002.

My 2000 doesn't have it, but does have the stud. Not sure if it came from the factory with it, or if it was removed by previous owners.

Top looks like there's a black tube behind the shield. Bottom, no tube, so no shield needed. Looks like the design was improved.
