"Heavy" steering after steering box replacement
#11
So, I got home and tried to adjust the box to get rid of the play. I can move the steering shaft at least an 1/8 to 1/4 inch either way even with the adjustment screw cranked down pretty well. It doesn't seem to fix it no matter how much I tighten the screw. Does this sound like the refurbished box is bad?

Two questions- when you put the old drop arm on the new box, did you allign it with the box using a centralizing bolt before tightening it down? When you adjusted the box for tightness, did you allign the drop arm with the box first?
The RAVE is pretty specific about making sure the drop arm is alligned with the box when doing anything with the steering. If your drop arm isn't alligned right, the box might not adjust for tightness correctly. I posted a while back about the correct size for the centralizing bolt. You can find it at any local hardware store (ACE, not Lowes or HD).
