Default Help!

I have a 2003 disco II. I recently replaced the old diff with one I bought off eBay.(other had bad failure see pics). I also changed front left axle. Before the failure the rover ran and shifted fine. Now that I have it all back together, I only have reverse, and if I put it in 1 it will drive. If I put it in 2, 3, or D and press the gas it won’t go. How can this be a bd transmission if 1. There were no signs of problems from the tranny before diff went out. And
B. All gears start in first so it should go in 1, 2, 3 and D because it has to pick up first gear first. Am I wrong? Anyone have anything like this happen?! Anyone know how to find disco mike???!!! Please send me ideas!! I’m stumped!

Disco Mike is long long long gone.

So before the blown front diff it shifted fine? Did it die while driving or did you notice an issue, and diagnose it, before any damage could have happened to the TC/Transmission?

@Wally Herron I suspect your transmission has been damaged, stuck valves would cause this but it could be electronic.

interesting...seems your not the first person to experience this:

2004 Land Rover Discovery
Visitor
FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILED.REPAIRED DIFF.NOW TRANSMISSION ENGAGES IN LOW AND REVERSE POSITIONS ONLY.

There no reply or solution listed......perhaps an electronic safety measure has engaged...how about unhooking battery for a bit and hooking it back up? might need a diagnostic code reader.....

Found this site http://blog.paddockspares.com/zf-4hp...ked-questions/I have a 4sp ZF, when I select “D” the vehicle won’t move, when I select “1” the vehicle moves off. I can then select “D” and continue to drive normally. If I stop I have to start in first again. Why?

A sprag clutch has “inverted” and will need replacing. No further damage will occur if you continue to drive but you will need to select “1” every time to start moving. A rebuild is required to correct this.
