help can not get in my disco lost the damn key!!!
Ok so here goes had a great night the other night and somehow lost my one and only key ( yes I know I am an idiot) but thats another story.
anyways I go to dealer with VIN get a new key made. problem solved right? nope, key doesn't turn. I figured maybe it was a bad cut or the wrong cut get a 2nd key cut. you guessed it that one didn't work either. Called a locksmith he couldn't get in the truck. Oh and the kicker is its in a mon through friday 2 hour spot in downtown D.C. so I have to have it moved by monday at 9. so do I break a window and pray the key works ? will the immobilizer keep me from driving it if the keys I had made off of the vin actually fit the ignition. thanks for the help.

Did your original key have the remote transmitter? If so did you lock the truck with that?, The reason I ask is that breaking the window and trying to start the truck won't work. Another question, did your original key manually open the doors? if so then one of two things is going on. 1. Someone at some point rekeyed the whole vehicle (driver door and ignition) or 2. Your dealer is an idiot and doesn't know how to cut keys. If you get a key that will turn in the door lock you need to read this. https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...d-works-45005/

I had a similar problem with the van that I just bought for my wife, only one key.
Went to the dealer to get a 2nd key made off of the VIN#, wont work.
It needed to be filed down to be made to work.
My wife took the van to the dealer to say the key didn't work, they scratched their heads, finally used a small file to make the key work.
You may need to do the same thing.

Key probably works.
Locks are worn.
Put the key in.
Hold it artificially straight and try to gently turn it.
If you can get in the door, then do the same thing for the ignition.
You'll find that with skill- you'll get that key to work
I had 4 keys make for our Discovery I from blanks.
All could be make to work by holding them straight and gently turning them until the tumblers cleared the lock cylinder.
One way to do it is to hold the key gently but firmly and keep pressure in the clockwise direction all the while you are moving the key up, down, to the side and in and out just a little until the key fully rotates and the door opens.
If the key was make from the correct VIN on the window - has to work.
Unless they changed all the locks to ???
You may also have luck retracing your steps to where you were.
And asking friends if they picked up your keys.
Go back to the bars - assuming this is Georgetown, look under the stools.
You may see them there. Even walk along the sidewalks and look in the street gutter too.
If you break the window and pull up the locks - firstly, the locks on a D2 will not pull up.
If you press the unlock button on the dash, I bet that will not work.
And, the horn will be sounding..
The horn will sound until hell freezes over as you will not have the FOB to turn it off.
