Default Help, cant get fan off!

Help, I cant get the fan/clutch off the water pump! I finally gave up and removed the water pump with fan on it and have been trying to get that big nut loose for over an hour. I even took the propeller off and welded a big piece of steel to the shaft to get some leverage and it just snapped the shaft off. The rave says right hand thread, thats the traditional counter-clockwise to loosen right?

Yes, traditional thread direction... There are ways to pop it loose but I've always used a tool specific in removing fans/pulleys. You can probably pick one up at your local parts store.

You need to use leverage on your side. Its a 36mm nut. Go to Orielly's and get the Ford Fan clutch tool. Its 19.99 long handled wrench. Put the water pump back on and wack that wrench towards the passenger side with a dead blow hammer. If you have broken the shaft off the water pump you may try a good vise to isolate what is left. Mine came off easily after 2 good wackes. Pushing by hand wont do it. Hitting the wrench is like a homemade impact wrench

Pretty much the best way, imo.

I picked up a 36mm open end at Northern Tool. I stick it on the nut and give it a good hit with a dead blow hammer. Remember to hit it with enthusiasm, little taps wont break it.

Hells bells it's off. I ended up welding the pulley flange to the pump housing all the way around and clamping the housing to a bench then I threw on a 4 foot piece of pipe on the end of my wrench and finally busted it loose. Thanks for the tips!
