Default HELP! LAND ROVER TRANNY DEAD?

Gentlemen-

Driving last evening, I was pulling out of a parking lot and began to accelerate slowly, when I noticed a loud "thunking" noise comming from the vehicle. I could feel it as I increased my rate of speed, the rate of "thunking" and jolt to the vehicle also increased with the rate of acceleration.

When parked, I revved the engine and there was no noise or sensation. The engine temperature was normal and the oil pressure was fine. I put it into drive again and the noise was still there (idiot move probally). I had the vehicle towed to a garage, but in Kansas (southeast) there are very few places with Rover expertise.

Please help! What could be wrong? How large of a bill can i expect?

2000 Land Rover, Discovery Series II. 126k Miles.

Default RE: HELP! LAND ROVER TRANNY DEAD?

I doubt you hurt the tranny. First thing to check would be the front drive shaft, see if th constant velocity joint failed. If no the then have the mechanic check both diffs cause one probably broke the spider gears.
NEVER NEVER drive any vehicle when you feel something like that, it will just cause you some BIG $$$$$.
If you want to call me, I will explain in detail what has happened.
