Overheating is the chief nemesis of the Disco engine. Overheating the aluminum block may cause expensive $ issues such as slipped liners, leaking head gaskets, etc.

The factory dash gauge is useless as it does not display engine temps linearly. If I recollect correctly, the middle mark on the gauge inidicates a 170 to 230-deg F range. Once the temp goes past 230-deg F, the gauge will jump straight to red. By then, it may be too late and you are facing a possible range of expensive issues which I mentioned above.

I suggest investing in a gauge which measures the exact, live coolant temp such as an Ultraguage or Scanguage:

He was asking that back in 2008 but better late than never.

Someone replied to this thread yesterday asking how to check his transmission level for some reason, not sure why, but I think the original topic is dead.
