HELP!! Oil Relief Valve ??
Reposting from the What did you do today......
I’m in the process of installing my new oil pump gear set. I disassembled the oil pump pressure relief valve assembly for cleaning.
The shown parts below in picture one are the snap ring, cup with o-ring,spring and relief valve. Visible when the oil pump gears are removed. Got all that for sure.
Now, on the the other side of the timing cover, by the oil pressure switch, is another snap ring, cap with o-ring and spring. BUT no relief valve under the spring.
Am I missing something? Should there be oil pressure relief valve under both spring assemblies?

No, I do not have an oil cooler.
Again, I am not sure this cover hasn't been tinkered with before, and it puzzles me why Rover would put a spring in that passage when it does nothing. That's what, .03 cents per each, wholesale at the time?
Multiply that by the number of vehicles produced.......$$$
Thanks for the quick reply, Fast. Tomorrow I'll put some juice to her, and see if she runs again.

The covers likely came that way (spring installed) from the mfr/supplier so I think you have it backwards. Meaning Rover would never consider removing the unused spring since that would have actually resulted in a labor cost at the factory. Much more than .03 cents a spring to remove them.
Good luck tomorrow.
