Help w/ Water Pump & Fan
I am trying to replace the water pump but so far am unable to even nudge the nut for the fan. I know it is a reverse or right hand thread. I was using a thin adjustable wrench on the nut and a rather large craftsman screwdriver wedged between 2 of the bolt heads on the pully to keep it from turning. After nearly breaking my hands I decided to up the anti a bit and throw on 1 and 1/2 inch pipe as a sleave over the wrench and the srewdriver for leverage. Full force I was able to actually bend the large screw driver and somewhat damage the head of one of the bolts on the pully. The pully did not move but that damn nut will not budge either. Even tried some penetrating oil... Nada.
Now... can that nut be siezed onto the water pumpt? It looks orig. This is a '94 Disco. If it may be siezed then purchasing the special wrenches will do nothing but waste money. Is it possible to unbolt the water pump and remove all as one unit? if so maybe I have to purchase a new Viscous Fan Clutch too?
I did read a post abou someone suggesting the use of an air chisle with a dull bit... but one I do not have an air chisle, and two I doubt that would put anymore tourque on that nut.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Joe-I am in the exact same boat. I bought a new fan clutch to go with my waterpump, which you should always replace then at the same time.
I broke two Craftsman screwdrivers and finally gave up as I did not want to damage the bolts that hold the pully on and then screw myself.
I have been trying on and off for a year.
I have talked to a local small time shop and they will do it for me for $60 using my parts.
So I am going to let them do it.
I was going to remove the whole thing as one unit but then descided against it.

I just finished a head gasket repair and was stumped when I got to this stage to. I went to Advanced Autoparts and rented a fan clutch removal tool. They didn't have one specific to Land Rover but what they gave me worked. The tool was free and it took me all of a few seconds to get the fan off once I had to tool.
I just had some radiator work done, the tool that the local radiator shop used was a 32 oz. framing hammer and a wrench. The "tech" smacked the wrench with the hammer about three times and the nut came loose. He must have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express the night before...........good luck. Phil
DISCO MIKE...
Have you seen these bolts siezed on to the point that they will not come off?
And if so... what would you have done in the Rover Shop days? ... trip to the sales floor is not an option! LOL

Get a bigger hammer Spike. Remember the old saying: if in doubt, use a bigger hammer.
