Default Here is a good Water Pump story...

Hey guys, I have a real interesting situation here. As I was leaving for work I heard a metal noise like something had popped off. My tach and a/c stopping working so I quickly pulled over to see if my belt had popped off. Turns out the stem coming from my water pump that holds my viscous drive, fan and pulley snapped in half. That's right snapped clean off in half. So now I have my viscous drive, fan and pulley in good condition all still put together with half of the stem hanging out sitting in my garage. I have a new water pump on the way the question is how do I get this stem off of the v-drive, fan, and pulley? Side note, I know getting the fan off is the hard part, but I have never replaced a water pump. Is there anything else to it besides taking off old pump, clean the area, put on new gasket and pump and then add the rest? Thanks.

You pretty much have it, like you said the hard part will be getting the fan clutch off, you can remove the water pump with the fan still on it and then take it to a shop and have them use a air chisle to break the nut loose.
It is a really good idea to replace your fan clutch when you replace the water pump.
