I think this question came up a couple weeks ago. I went out to a junkyard today that just got a Disco and figured I'd cut it open to show everyone. It's basically just a semi-mushy, solid rubber substrate around a thin-ish metal skeleton. The type of rubber feels like some kind of butyl.

And yes, I snagged those horn buttons, haha.
