Congrats, I hope my Disco makes it that far without any major issues. *knocking on my fake wood trim*

Nate, you do need to consider some work on that engine if you are looking for another 100,000 miles from it.
When was the last time you did my major service, has your timing chain/gear set and oil pump ever been replaced? As for your tick, you could very possibly have a set of warn lifters and a cam with a few warn lobes.
Time to get to work.

i did some stuff to it right when i got it but not the entire list:

- oil change with motul 8100 full syn. its 5w40 so i know i should probably go higher weight
- new air filter
- replaced all fluids in the F+R differentials and transfer case.
- tranny fluid still looks clean
- seafoamed it
- replaced a vacuum line for the cruise control
- replaced spark plugs that were in terrible shape

the ticking is not evident in the valve cover region while listening with a stethoscope. it is lower in the engine and louder on the driver side. stops at 1500 rpm and after long trips. makes me think its sleeves.

OK, just remember you have a lot of warn internal engine parts.
What about your tranny, at your mileage, that should be serviced every 15,000 miles.

Congrats, now add it to the 200k club in the Roaming With Friends section.

As long as it runs fine let a sleeping dog lie.

That thing will tick for another 100k.

Yeh, till the chain or oil pump breaks, then you may just need to replace the engine.

Or until he crashes it, or a tree falls on it, or it gets stolen, or he blows a head gasket and overheats the engine, or its totaled by hail, or it gets hit by a snow plow...anything can happen at anytime, thats life.
We can either waste our time worrying about things that dont matter or we can enjoy life, I choose to enjoy life.

Point is, his truck runs fine, so until there is a problem dont worry about it.
I've said it before and I will say it again, each to their own, he can set his truck on fire and rook it down a hill, its his truck, his choice.

Two different opinions, he can choose what to do given the information.

You say to basically rebuild half the engine, I say let it alone.
It is not right or wrong, it is opinion, mine and yours Mike, I respect your opinions even though I may not always agree with them.

Where about do you live?
Cool climate?

How did you get 200,000 miles with out a few head gasket jobs?

Whatever you are doing, keep doing it.
Carry on.

i live in eastern iowa, the truck is originally from wisconsin. i'm sure the headgaskets were done at some point. the truck was obviously pretty well taken care of by its first few owners. drives and tracks great down the interstate.

CEL comes on periodically for large leak in EVAP system, replaced the gas cap and that didn't fix it so i'm guessing rotted vacuum line.

has a slight low idle shudder which persisted even after cleaning out the IACV

3 amigos come on while driving but resets when i turn the ignition off so i am having trouble checking the codes.
