Default high water

how well do the electronics hold up to water? I am thinking of installing a snorkel but worried that my cd changer will short out if water gets in the cab not really just the cd changer but all the electronics

The electronics will not hold up to any water. At all. It's not recommended to go into water deeper than the hubs.

Your CD will crap out, mine did.

You don't even need to consider touching water, or a snorkel, until you extend the breather tubes on the differentials/transfer box/transmission. Also, spend a will unplugging electrical connections, squeezing dielectric grease into them, and plugging them back in.

I spent a night helping with the SAR efforts during a major flood, driving through multiple miles worth of water that was deep enough to reach a few inches above the side windows. It can be done, no issues, other than I still got water into the transmission breather tube, despite the fact that they are all run into the cowling by the windshield.

And yes, it was that deep. Here is the truck that followed me briefly, had less weight than me, lifted off the ground and floated away.

The transmission computer is under the drivers seat, if it gets water in it you are done.

John, do you know how to do water crossings or are you just looking to splash in the puddles? If you are just planning on playing for no real reason but to see how wet you can get, this is an expensive game that you should rethink.
Do you have a lift and what size tires are you running? Stay no deeper then the top of your tires at a steady speed and you should be fine.
